G.P.R. Concrete 3D Imaging/NDT

Concrete Imaging Data

Structural Mapping of concrete is an application used to determine position or depth of anything embedded within a concrete structure; these targets include rebar, cables, conduits etc. 3D imaging documentation can be supplied with this service.

Non-Destructive Investigation of Concrete Structures with 3-D Imaging

Concrete Imaging EquipmentFinally, a quick, easy, safe and effective way to locate buried obstruction in concrete structures prior to drilling, cutting or coring. We can inspect walls, floors, decks, slabs, tunnels, balconies and garages. Now it is possible to locate rebar, tension cables, conduits, voids and even measure slab thickness. Our technology can find objects beneath the surface to a depth of 18 inches.  The systems we use coupled with highly experienced operators result in very accurate location, depth and identification of materials in concrete structures.

Our equipment will not interfere with sensitive electronics, computer equipment or hospital measuring devices. This, coupled with our high mobility and quick set up time, allows us to perform the scanning tasks very quickly during normal business hours.

Structural Imaging provides concrete scanning services for:

  • Locating safe areas to core drill new stacks for electrical and plumbing
  • Locating safe areas to anchor HVAC, Mechanical and seismic anchors
  • Determining safe areas to cut doorways, stairways and door openings
  • Slab thickness assessment/survey: Slab on Grade (S.O.G) and elevated
  • Locating structural beams: S.O.G. and elevated
  • Locating utility pipes under concrete and pavement
  • Locating rebar and post tension cable (vertical and horizontal) in concrete
  • Determine size and precise location of reinforcement within concrete
  • Identify and map reinforcing steel and hydronic lines within concrete
  • Map and identify conduits and utility cables within concrete
  • Identify air/water filled voids in or behind concrete

We can provide all scanning views in either paper copy or electronic format in both two and three dimensions. In small areas were complex or crowded targets are identified we can generate images in ¼ inch slices to a depth of 18 inches to improve the identification of materials in the concrete.

Benefits over Radiography (X-Ray):

Unlike x-ray technology, concrete scanning with GPR requires only single sided access to perform surveys. This means slabs of all types may now be scanned. No site hazards or need to close off work areas as with radiography. Hundreds of square feet can be inspected in a day. We can even view 3D results on screen while on the project.

Concrete Inspection

locate metallic and non-metallic targets in walls, floors; we can locate embedment within concrete structures prior to drilling, cutting, coring or use scanning information to determine pre–build location of future projects.

  • Structure inspection – monuments, walls, towers, tunnels, balconies, garages, decks
  • Concrete cover depth on new structures
  • Concrete inspection – locate metallic and non-metallic targets in walls/floors
  • Measure slab thickness
  • Void detection and location
  • Inspection of other reinforced concrete structures
  • Easy identification of re-bar location and depth
  • Ability to obtain accurate overlay thickness
  • Determine accurate concrete cover depth
  • Define areas of deterioration
